Brief

The signage and wayfinding strategy and design for Astana Expo 2017 included public realm, transport and parking throughout the event masterplan and post event in legacy mode.

Approach

Zoning the masterplan into areas helped to break down the large space for directing visitors through the site. Four main zones were named and coloured according to the elements air, wind, earth and fire.

Design

The graphic language makes use of colour and shape assigned to each of the zones. The shapes can become repetitive dynamic patterns, adding a sense of movement and direction where appropriate. Otherwise, graphics are bold and stand out against black backgrounds. A concrete and back painted glass palette of materials aids visual contrast.
